Elementals Tointon Gallery, Union Colony, Greeley, CO 9/9/22-10/15/22 Invited to participate in a group exhibition of four artists.
My element in this group of four artists was water. Below, two works that speak to water. Water, falling… and Rain.
My element: water. Above, Water, falling... and Rain
Detail of painted tree pods bundled into the large pod. Symbols for water include: Sanskrit, alchemy, kanji, hieroglyphics and chemical – in blue. The green is kanji for heart.
Detail of Water, falling… Cellulose (brewed tea paper) over a skeletal frame. Pod filled with tree pods painted with one of five symbols for water. Visitors to the gallery were offered to take pods home with them.
Rain (above left) is made of teabag strings, tied together and stained blue. The strands are suspended on a bamboo pole. The piece was inspired by images of rain depicted on 16c Japanese woodblock prints.
Pleasetouch Artworks Center for Contemporary Art, Loveland, CO 9/10-10/30/2021 Offered a solo exhibition
This gallery view of PLEASEtouch shows 2 of the 3 islands from my installation ‘skin’ (2001) in the foreground – Oahu (on the left) skinned in vintage army uniforms and a bit of Honshu (on the right), skinned in army uniform linings. Bundled above them, some of the yellow “silk” Battle Banners from the installation. Left, along the wall, artifacts (branches skinned in black leather) from an installation created for the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design called Landscape for an Institution of Higher Learning (2002). In the back, two new works: Castle Bravo (on the wall), a painting” of pipe cleaners on aluminum foil-skinned canvas, and the small silver figure on the pedestal is called Disc Pilot, based on a Hopi Katsina story.
A reworked piece for the installation. The original was the full-standing cross with the ribcage (suspended on wall behind it) on its cross bar. The original was called Future Relic. Its reworked form is called Future Artifact.
A detail of the base. The cross itself is skinned in white velvet (as is the ribcage suspended on the wall behind the sculpture). The base is also skinned in white velvet that has been stained with blue acrylic water color.
